Beijing Olympics 08-08-08

The Beijing Olympics were opened on August 8, 2008 in the Bird nest stadium. There were many amazing opening acts, and the parade of nations was still an event to see. The countries walked out not in alphabetical order but in order of the number of brush strokes in the Chinese characters. China was of course last to walk out since they are hosting the games. Yao Ming was the flag barer for the country, but he didn’t walk alone. 9-year-old Lin Hao was beside him carrying the Chinese and Olympian flags. Lin Hao survived the Sichuan earthquake, he pulled himself from the rubble, and then saved two classmates. When Lin Hao was asked why he did such a courageous thing he simply relied ” I had a job and I was a leader – the hall monitor, so I pulled them out.”

Nike’s 10K Run- a Fun, Easy, Healthy Way to Give

You need so little to give so much

On August 31, 2008 Nike is holding a 10K run in 25 cities. For every step you take while in this run, Nike donates to your choice of these three charities- WWF, Livestrong, and Ninemillion. This is yet another way for you to help someone in need. All you have to do is run, and running can only help. You will be benefiting so many people if you choose to participate in this run, including yourself. If you decide to run the 10K, take pictures of yourself and of the race, then send to me in an e-mail and I will post them on the site along with your name and the charity you ran for.

Here is a link to Nike’s official website for the run:

Refugees

The definition of a refugees is a person taking refuge (especially in a foreign country) from war or persecution or natural disaster.

Most refugees come from third world countries, and now can not provide for themselves or their families. They need food, water, shelter, and hope, all of which can be given to them through UNHCR and ninemillion.org.

Both ninemillion.org and UNHCR are connected and with every donation they receive they send it straight to the refugees needs. They buy the things which are needed- food, water, shelter, and hope. So, with this I am URGING you to please make a donation to a refugee organization, it will help to save a life.

Here are links to donation forms:
